Writing Home (Episode 2: Ceremony with Alexis Pauline Gumbs) — Kaiama L. Glover
"This episode of the podcast would be a great complement to any class discussing (Barnard alum!) Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ work, but also to any class thinking about writing and theory as a socially engaged practice--one that is actively anti-racist and feminist. I haven’t yet brought this podcast into a First-Year Writing class, but it's something I’d like to do. With Navarro and Glover, Gumbs discusses her “ritual of writing” as well as how she engages with black feminist theory: how she “writes with” these black feminist thinkers in new ways. The three also get into conversation about genealogies and lineages--as these relate to both personal and literary histories. All of the episodes in this podcast feature thought-provoking intellectual discussions while maintaining a sense of play and fun. You’ll feel lucky to get to listen to these writers and thinkers in conversation with each other. I guarantee you’ll leave an episode wanting to read more of the featured writer’s work (as well as that of the hosts and the numerous influences that come up in their conversations!)." - Meredith Benjamin, English & First Year Foundation
